Asia Newson
The Gen Z entrepreneur Asia Newson began her entrepreneurial journey at the very young age of 5. The fact that this young girl began her business at such a young age is remarkable. Asia was inspired to start her own business after watching her parents struggle to create substantial income. Little Asia almost never saw her mother because her mother was always working late to provide for the family. Her father was an entrepreneur of his own. He sold candles to people, which is where Asia was inspired to start her own candle-making business to help support her family. Asia claims that what drove her to pursue a business was fun and freedom.
After working with her father selling candles for a while, Asia went out on her own and went door to door selling candles to people. For a while people were buying candles from her just because they admired her work ethic, but once she got a little older people began to suspect that she was running some sort of scam. Security guards would tell her she was not able to sell candles to residents anymore, so she needed a solution or else her business would fail. So, Asia and her mom went and got her a business license, which allowed Asia to sell her product wherever she pleased. The most profitable place she found to sell was downtown, where the most amount of foot traffic was.
Eventually, Asia Newson ran into the founder of Quicken Loans, Dan Gilbert, while he was walking on the street. Gilbert had heard of Asia from a couple security guards and told her that he would help her sell anywhere that she wanted to because he admired her hustle. After this prompting from Gilbert, Asia began to expand her business by training new workers to go out and sell candles. She also made her own website and orders were booming. Her idea for selling candles to people was so successful because her customers knew the girl who was behind it all, and people started falling in love with this young entrepreneur, Asia Newson. Asia had grit and hustle and was not willing to back down from her dream even when she didn’t know where she could sell her candles. She regrouped and came back stronger with a business license and a passion to continue reaching people with her candles. Asia’s business is called Super Business Girl which is exactly what she is. People got to know the entrepreneur herself, and from then on were willing to give her money for her candles. Asia’s business was set to make $100,000 in revenue in 2017.
Asia Newson is inspiring to me because she shows how determination and branding can help skyrocket a business from just going door to door at 5 years old, to making 100,000 dollars at 13 years old. Her example has helped teach me that if you have a solid product and the grit to see your dream come true, a successful business is not far behind.

I find this inspiring because sometimes when we study these entrepreneurs we do not look into how it affects their personal lives but Asia being prompted by her family working paycheck to paycheck made her work hard on an idea and that idea changed her families financial situation which is a really cool and inspiring thing to see.
I find it very interesting that she managed to find an early passion at such a young age and managed to pursue it in further years to come.
This was a very inspiring story. Her story is impressive because she started so young and still showed determination to turn it into a real business. Starting at just 5 years old and turning candle-making into a business shows real determination and creativity.
