America’s first entrepreneur

Ben Franklin is perhaps the best example of an entrepreneur and the model for entrepreneurship in all of American history. He is a man with many talents and made good use of those talents through his inventions and creations.

Ben Franklin was an entrepreneur in many ways, but most can be grouped into three types.

the first is with his inventions, he has many, but most people don’t talk about flexible catheters or swim fins instead, the ones worth mentioning are the more interesting ones like the Franklin stove, glass harmonica, focal glasses and most importantly, the lightning rod (a story constantly retold).

The second type of entrepreneurship Ben Franklin excelled at was intellectual. He created the Poor Richard’s Almanac, an amazing resource without the internet. As well as a special form of idioms and phrases known as Franklin-isms.

The third area Ben Franklin excelled in was financial. He had a newspaper printing company, and he created a network of printing partnerships throughout the colonies and turned Postal Service into a profitable operation.
