As I was searching for a young entrepreneur, specifically who has had an effect on the sporting world, for this blog post, Carson Matthews caught my eye for a couple of reasons. The most notable of reasons being that I have often seen Instagram ads for his product pop up on my for you page. I have looked into the product , which I will get into momentarily, through Instagram because it addresses a fundamental problem that has affected me in the past. But with my discovery of the product being on Instagram, I was skeptical about the excellent reviews. As I researched further, though, I realized he has some genuine credibility. That being said, Carson Matthews, a once minor league baseball player, decided to drop out of the pursuit of baseball to follow and create his product: a face scrub that uses natural ingredients including charcoal and honey to reduce the relentlessness of ache induced by sports through sweat buildup and the use of dirty equipment. Because of his opportunities prior to starting his company, Matthews was able to get his product out into the open quickly due to his following on social media and his connections with Major League Baseball players. With this being in such high demand (78% of athletes experience acne caused by sports according to the website), the product took off and thrived partially because it is not a chemically filled solution, as many alternatives are, and is specialized towards a niche market. With the success of the face scrub, Matthews has expanded, innovating more products that attack similar issues including face wipes, pimple patches, deodorant, etc. Overall, Carson Matthews has further developed my understanding of taking a pre-existing issue that is already being addressed and modifying it in a way that is ideal for a specific subgroup.
