Justin Leusner is a 2024 Grad from Penn State University. He created a social media startup in 2022 known as “TDAY Sports.” This company is touted as “Gen-Z’s ESPN” as it utilizes fast-paced content to attract and connect with younger audiences of sports. Though TDAY Sports officially launched in 2022 it had been in the making since 2013 when a younger Leusner had created Youtube videos. By posting silly videos of him doing countless things relating to sports such as attending games or playing video games, Leusner was able to garner a considerable following on social media at a very young age. Having a good following already on social media and a wealth of knowledge in the social media realm allowed for Leusner’s company to flourish and blossom. A main problem Leusner faced early on was that he hired too many employees, which made it harder to get everyone to buy into it as a company rather than just a club. By switching to a 12 person team Leusner was able to eradicate this problem, which ultimately proved to be the turning point he needed to expedite the growth of TDAY Sports. This allowed it to grow from just a club at Penn State to something that could grow nationally.
Today, Leusner’s company has grown to a following of 1.2 million among various social media platforms. Leusner’s knowledge allowed him to know what his audience would want by switching to faster paced and more relevant sports news rather than the old school way of boring audiences in a monotone way. By giving the Gen-Z fans what they want, Leusner was able to skyrocket his business. He even landed his first brand deal with Paragon Marketing Group to promote Fast Twitch, which is one of Gatorade’s newest drinks.
Outside of the large following , TDAY Sports has put a large emphasis on building relationships with its customers. Leusner makes sure to respond to all DM’s from his fans and followers in order to get feedback and help grow stronger relationships with the younger generation. This personal and relatable relationship between the provider and consumer has created great success for TDAY Sports. He feels his use of social media sets him aside from other analysts and anchors as he is able to use this to truly connect with his viewers. He is hoping to continue to grow this business world wide onto an even larger scale in the future.
