Cody Strokes – Dive-Bomb Industries

Cody Strokes grew up hunting and fishing in Missouri. When he was in college, he found a strong passion for Waterfowl Hunting. Specifically, ducks and Geese. He wanted to do something entrepreneurial in his life, so he did what all entrepreneurs should do and found a problem in the waterfowl industry. He found that duck decoys were super expensive and not affordable for most people. This problem of affordability made Duck hunting harder to get into. He thought more people should be able to duck hunt, so he worked on making hyper-realistic, affordable decoys.
Cody took a trip to Canada to photograph geese and ducks to get experience seeing when other geese and ducks fly down into the water. He copied these positions the ducks were in to make his decoys as realistic and functional as possible. Soon after this trip, he worked on his first decoys and was very successful on Craigslist and such. But he did not have a trademark or brand name or anything of that sort yet.
Cody needed a brand name, so he thought of “Dive-Bomb” while on a Canada trip again. He and some buddies were discussing names, and this one came up with the idea of the ducks diving down into the water. Dive Bomb Industries was officially launched in 2011 while Cody attended Michigan State University. Cody is undoubtedly an entrepreneur. Focusing on Innovation and Affordability.

This is a great story about someone who took an interest in their life, found a problem, and created a brand. It is really cool to see people interested in hunting and fishing innovating in that industry.
It is super cool that he was able to not only make something that would help himself out, but something that would increase the availability of the hobby for everyone. His dedication to product quality through all of his research is also really admirable.
I like how Cody clearly framed the problem first rather than just jumping toward solutions. It is cool how he used actual ducks’ movements and based his decoys off them.
