Drizzle – Persy Arcement

Drizzle
Jessica Monaco was working at Shore Gamers in New Jersey, when Persy Arcement, age 13, walked in, introduced herself and presented a box. The box was a board game she had invented, she asked if the store would like to stock it. Monaco had seen pitches like this before, the store was known for being supportive of anyone who designs games, but not typically from someone so young.

Persy’s game is called “Drizzle,” it’s a competition game with a goal to build the perfect ice cream cone. Decked out with dice, a scorecard, and all the toppings you can think of in game pieces.
Like most kids during the shutdown in 2020, Persy was bored, looking for something to do. Since she couldn’t visit an ice cream shop, so she did the next-best thing, make a game about ice cream. The game started with simple pieces of cut out paper and household items that Persy shared with family, and then friends after the shutdown. Later, with the help of her babysitter, she was able to work up some real prototypes. Once the prototypes arrived, the hardest part came: Selling the game. Persy and her father originally had about a 50% success rate in finding takers.

As of the article I read, “Drizzle” can now be found in 10 stores throughout Monmouth and Ocean County, or ordered online. The garage of Persy’s family is jammed with boxes containing 3,000 sets of “Drizzle” with the dream of selling enough games to fund her college tuition, however Persy has already gained so much more than that. At the very least, Persy hopes her story will inspire other kids to follow their creative hunches.

I think Persy’s story is a great example of letting a kid follow through with their seemingly crazy ideas to see where they lead. She let her creative juices flow and was brave enough to walk into businesses and ask them to sell her product. That is something we can all look up to.
