Erik Finman – Botangle

Erik Finman is a remarkable figure in the cryptocurrency world, known for turning a $1,000 gift from his grandmother into millions by investing in Bitcoin at just 12 years old. By the time he was 18, Finman had amassed a net worth of around $5 million, due to his early belief in Bitcoin’s potential and his self-education through books, online courses, and mentorship.

After dropping out of school at 15, Finman launched Botangle, a startup that connected students with mentors via video chat. The company attracted attention and funding, including support from PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel. Following its sale, Finman returned to crypto and founded the Cryptocurrency Investment Group to help others navigate the digital asset space.

Despite his success, Finman faced many setbacks—most notably his investment in ZCash, which resulted in significant losses. His public criticism of Bitcoin during this time also drew backlash from the crypto community

Today, Finman remains active in the tech and crypto industries, investing in startups and speaking at global conferences. His journey from a teenage investor to a Silicon Valley entrepreneur continues to inspire young innovators around the world.

I think Erik Finman’s story is a great example of how in anything we set out to do it won’t be 100% smooth sailing all the time. We are all bound to discover struggles and roadblocks that we have to work through.

This is a great story about how things do not always work out like they should. However, when people are able to pivot, one can discover new ideas and succeed.
