Realigning The Vision
Rebecca Rosenberg, age 26, is a young and innovative thinker. At the age of 17 she realized that the world of technology was far behind in its ability to assist people with visual impairments.
Rosenberg was diagnosed, at only a few months old, with oculocutaneous albinism. This visual impairment causes a lack of visual clarity as well as increased sensitivity to light, among other side effects. These side effects make it hard to read and define clear images. In school, Rebecca was given many different tools and technologies to help her in her academic pursuits. She realized that many of the tools offered her, which tried to incorporate digital interfaces, where more cumbersome and more expensive than her phone. She thought to herself “why can’t I just do this on my smartphone?“. This idea came to her in 2013, long before she even conceptualized the idea for her entrepreneurial venture ReBokeh. The timeline of events proves the importance of cultivating many little hunches over time.

ReBokeh has been on the scene since 2022 and has made Rosenberg’s original idea a reality in the form of a free iOS application. The ReBokeh app allows each user to uniquely adjust smart phone camera settings in order to optimize visibility for the user, no matter what kind of visual impairment. The philosophy of optimization follows Rebecca’s desire to improve what vision people still have instead of replacing it, showing that innovation doesn’t have to be about throwing away what is already in front of you. Entrepreneurship is about seeing a need, even if it is your own, and finding the best ways to help others optimize their environments to enrich their lives.

Great work on this! I particularly like how Rebecca used her own visual impairment problems and came up with a solution that her and many others could use going forward to resolve it. Great work!
