Gimkit

While sitting in class working on a school project in 2017 at Gibson ELk High School in Washington state, 16 year old high school junior Josh Feinsilber was thinking of ways to make learning more engaging for students while still helping kids learn content. This led him to creating Gimkit which is used now in classrooms across America. Josh used his background in coding and what learning styles worked best for him and this led him to create a platform that helps keep students engaged while also helps teachers get content across better. Josh has said in many interviews that his original plan was to try and get ten different teachers to use his platform and said that he never thought it would grow to the mutli million dollar and multi million user company With the help of Jeff Osbrone they took what they knew from personal experience as well as psychology and created their website. What they discovered was children and teens alike tend to remember content when they find it fun.Although the company received some backlash at first for being similar to another company called Kahoot Osbrone and Feinsilber made sure to keep working to find ways to make their product stand out from others in that market and kept pushing. They then took Thai information and used it to create their ultimate learning platform. What’s unique about Josh’s story beside his age was the fact that he saw a problem with how content was being taught and created a fun solution to it. Beside from the age of Josh at the time of creation one part that really sticks out is how he didn’t quit when he received backlash but worked harder to make his company stand out. On top of that instead of being satisfied with where he is at he constantly goes back and improves the website and adds more game modes which shows his ability to improve on something that is already great.

Great research on this. One of the obvious things that stands out to me about Josh’s story is his contestant drive to make his product better. Even though his original expectations have been blown away, he is still striving to improve his product and make it more unique and user friendly for everyone. I also liked how he was able to develop it to help a problem that directly affected him in a market that will never be saturated and is always changing and adapting. It was certainly a challenge, but he took it head on and the benefits are definitely showing.
It is really neat to learn the full story behind Gimkit, a platform even my high school teachers used. I am glad you addressed its similarity to Kahoot. While it does hold some semblance to Kahoot, Josh Feinsilber definitely succeeded in making it stand out from the competition. His story is a perfect example of not needing to be the first of a kind in a market to be a success, just the best of the market.
