Da Bomb Bath Fizzers – Caroline and Isabel Bercrew

Bath bomb lovers—do you hate the stickiness that follows the use of a bath bomb? Do you dread how all the fun fizzles out because its only natural that a bath bomb experience ends? These are two issues great lovers of bath bombs—sisters Caroline and Isabel Bercrew—faced one day at ages 15 and 16.

In the summer of 2011, the girl’s parents picked up 25$ worth of ingredients to create bath bombs, for what they thought would be a fun science experiment. Little did they know that they had just ignited the spark that would turn just 25 dollars worth of materials into a multi-million dollar business.

Both girls found they had a deep appreciation for the relaxing scents and the distinctive, catchy colors as the bath bombs dissolved in water, but ended up noting a couple of things that they hated about the experience. Namely—that the fun came to an end and the sticky residue the bombs seemed to leave. This led Caroline and Isabel to decide to make their own, improved version of the bath bombs and sell them at s local art fair near their home. They borrowed about 350$ from their mom and set to work, making sure to keep track of the receipts to pay back their very first business investor. After three months of trial and error, they finally created a product that satisfied them—complete with little surprises tucked inside so that it was easy to keep the fun going even when the bath bomb dissolved! When the art fair arrived they sold out on the very first day, leading them to staying up late making as many more as they could. Despite their best efforts, this still wasn’t enough! They sold out again on the second day, and they walked away from the art fair with enough money to pay back what they borrowed and pour back into their business.

Because of what started as a 25$ experiment, both of the girl’s parents were able to quit their day jobs and now help run Da Bomb Bath Fizzers company, which now sells 500,000 bath bombs a month. Each bomb has a unique surprise tucked inside and these bath bombs can be found at stores like Target and Ulta now!

Their father, Benjamin handles the finances and operations while their mother, Kimberly manages marketing and branding. Caroline and Isabel, now 15 and 16, are co-chief creative officers, and they create and test new bath bomb recipes, update the company’s social media, and act as the public faces of the company.

The sisters can’t wait to expand the business further!

I think this is a great idea because this business has so much potential for growth! Now that they have entered the bath industry and have been successful, they have more opportunity for new products like lotion or soap! Getting started at such a young age will help them immensely.

I love that they truly turned this business into something completely unique and full of creativity. You never think about the little businesses kids start as having much potential, but I love that their parents invested so much into this and took it to the next level!

I like how the girls started with a passion for bath bombs, pursued the problem of sticky residue with bath bombs, and then learned how to how to solve it effectively. It’s so interesting how something as small as a $25 experiment can be the inspiration for a multi-million dollar business.
