Marsai Martin – Hollywood’s Youngest Executive Producer
Born in Plano, Texas, on August 14th, 2004, Marsai Martin started out her career young when she showed exceptional talent and a desire to act. She appeared in many commercials, including a national ad for Choice Hotels. As she continued her search to grow her acting career, she got the opportunity to be cast as Diane Johnson in Black-ish at nine years old. At 14 years old, Marsai became the youngest Hollywood executive producer in history by creating her own movie, Little, which she had pitched at 10 years old. In 2019, she began her own company entitled Genius Productions, and through this platform she continues to create content that challenges stereotypes that people have of black people and the image that is often painted of them in Hollywood movies. Through Genius Productions she has made the movie Little and the TV show Saturdays, a Disney Channel series.

In 2022, Marsai started her own nail business called Mari by Marsai. In addition to this, Marsai has been pictured in Essence magazines, partnered with Beubble to create a beauty line, is an active mental health advocate, and started the Sai Summer Cookout to celebrate culture. When asked about how she got started in these fields, her reply was that acknowledging and being comfortable in your own unique beauty was something that had been taught to her from a young age, from her grandparents and parents. She hopes to be a role model for young girls, especially young black girls, to be comfortable in your own personality and style. Up to this point, Marsai has been named to the Forbes 30 Under 30 list, placed on Time magazine’s most influential teens list, and has received many other awards as well. From Marsai we can learn to be comfortable in our styles and personalities, and to use our uniqueness to help other people celebrate theirs as well. She is a great example of what it means to follow your God-given gifts to their fullest potential.

Marsai Martin has a remarkable story, especially as it pertains to the film/entertainment industry! From my understanding, the timing of her story is impressively fast for the industry. Promoting from what sounds like her first substantial role at age 9 to being an executive producer on a Disney Channel series that she pitched is definitely notable as a mere five-year turn around and quite remarkable at her young age.
It’s neat to hear how her entrepreneurship branched into many industries. Stories like hers really help reveal how different industries are so interconnected: acting and the entertainment industry quickly bleeds into personal brands in beauty, fashion, and cosmetics, coupled with those things is often some form of social mission (like mental health advocacy and celebrating beauty and ethnicity).
This is so inspiring!! Its awesome that Marsai achieved such a wide array of success at such a young age. Her drive and passion really show!
So inspiring that she managed to set her career and find her purpose at such a young age!
