Josh Feinsilber – Gimkit

Josh Feinsilber, maker of Gimkit, is a true entrepreneur. During high school he made Gimkit as a small project that has since grown into something so much more. What is Gimkit, you ask? It is a platform that “gameifies” learning, in a good way!

For example, Gimkit has several genuinely fun games that you can play with your entire class where to win you must answer questions based upon the material you have learned. In contrast to Kahoot and other such learning platforms that have more of a “game show” style, Gimkit has quality games that are well integrated into the learning/question answering aspects. For example, students can scale a mountain with every bit of movement needing a question to be answered, while competing with their friends on who can reach the top first.

Josh recognized from an early age that the existing platforms for making learning fun were simply… not fun. They were at the time glorified flashcards where the only thing that happened was a number going up in response to answering questions correctly, and where is the fun in that? While other highschoolers were simply annoyed, Josh chose to use his skills in coding and game design to make a solution for the problem. This is an excellent reminder for all of us that the problems that entrepreneurs solve are not distant things, but the problems of everyday life we all experience.
