Langston Whitlock – SAFETRIP

Langston Whitlock is the co-founder of SAFETRIP, a ridesharing app that allows users to coordinate rides to their medical appointments. Lamgston is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, where he learned to code and create software. Langston spent his high school years learning to develop code and networking with people in his community. With the help of his colleague  Ja’Nese Jean, Langston was able to launch the SAFETRIP at only seventeen years old. The app allows people with transportation barriers to book rides to non-emergency medical appointments. The service met a massive need in Langston’s community and has made 3.4 million dollars in revenue since it launched. SAFETRIP is still operative and successful, which Langston credits to God for providing for him. Langston Whitlock exemplifies the ability that young adults have to create impact in the world, so long as they make the effort.

This idea seems like it would be a great service to many people. Though it seems like a small business, its impact is obviously impressive. I am amazed at how much revenue the company has generated.

This idea seems to fulfill the pain that a lot of people have, especially people who don’t have an easy way to get to their appointments, like older people. It’s very inspiring that Langston still keeps God at the center of his successfulness.

I think what is so smart and impactful about this is that he addressed a general problem (transportation) that we might see kind of fulfilled (in the sense that one can technically book an Uber, etc.), BUT he saw further into a very specific transportational need; i.e. rides to medical appointments. I also love that he was able to stand for his beliefs by creating something that is truly helpful to a overlooked pain point, and credit his success to God. Truly inspirational.

Great read! Loved getting more information about the need for attention to the transportation system.
