Bunim Laskin – Swimply

“Swimply” is a peer-to-peer marketplace for renting swimming pools. This business was founded by Bunim Laskin. He started this business after having an “aha!” moment; he saw how underutilized of assets were swimming pools in peoples’ backyards. That’s where he came up with the idea for “Swimply” which is considered an Airbnb for pools in a way. He started this thought process by going on Google Earth and looking around his neighborhood. Not to his surprise, he saw plenty of pools that were extremely expensive to maintain, remaining 95% of the time vacant.

Laskin realized there was a large supply of pools in his neighborhood but there was also still a demand for them from people (like himself) who wanted to use them for pool parties, etc. Laskin simply connected with these people in a genius way. He then started reaching out to the homeowners, who agreed that they would like some extra passive income!

The business layout was simple. The pool owners would list their pools on the platform, setting an hourly rate, along with rules and other important things. The renters would then book time slots and pay on the Swimply platform. They even provided liability insurance.

Swimply started out as a small business from young entrepreneur and scaled into a multimillion-dollar platform. It is truly an inspiring story to see how an underutilized asset like a swimming pool in someone’s backyard can be turned into a great passive income stream. Bunim Laskin was the first to discover this.

This is a really cool business; I had no idea there was anything like this! I have a pool at home, and I would definitely be open to renting it out.

this is a really cool idea and especially one many people definitely have never thought about trying to turn into a business, however he knew it was something that hasn’t been done and that he could take advantage of and create a unique niche of people that have a need for that and really capitalize on it.
