Mikaila Ulmer – Me & The Bees Lemonade

Mikaila Ulmer is a 21-year-old, American, gen z entrepreneur who found Me & The Bees Lemonade. When Mikaila was four years old, she experienced being bitten by a bee twice in the same week. As a young child, being bitten by a bee is somewhat of a scary experience. Mikaila’s parents helped her turn the scary experience of being bitten by a bee into a learning experience. She began to learn more about what bees’ roles are in the world. After learning all the good bees do for the world, she decided that she wanted to help save honeybees. Using the lemonade recipe from her grandma that has honey and flaxseeds in it, Mikaila began a lemonade stand. In her effort to save honeybees, she gave 10% of the profits to organizations that saved honeybees. She entered her lemonade stand business into her schools youth business competition and gained a ton of attention for it. From the attention she gained at the competition, she had some local restaurants and retailers wanting her lemonade in their businesses. Mikaila’s business only grew from there and was soon in larger retailers across the nation such as Whole Foods Market and Target. In 2015, Mikaila was invited onto the show Shark Tank and received an investment from Daymond John to help expand her business. While Mikaila’s business continued to grow, she became a larger voice in the entrepreneurial world. She has spoken on many television shows and was invited to meet President Barrack Obama in 2016. Me & The Bees Lemonade has continued to grow over the years into a large company. As of 2022, the business is making 5 million dollars in annual revenue. Mikaila Ulmer is now enrolled at Emory University studying Economics as her business continues to thrive.

This is a great blog and the story stuck out to me, because when I was 5 I was stung by a bee right above my eye, and my parents used a similar technique to hers to help calm me down. I love the way she implemented that experience into her business.
