Kate Barton – Fashion for the Future
Kate Barton did not set off in the fashion industry looking to start a brand, in fact, she wasn’t even sure how to start a singular piece of clothing. Having never played around with design, Barton didn’t see it as an option when heading into college and instead pursued a business degree until switching to fashion merchandising. It wasn’t until she was accepted for an internship in New York that her flare for design really took root. On her first day she was asked to sew a top, which she accomplished by watching YouTube tutorials in the back. From that moment though, she knew she had found her passion.

After completing the internship, she attended the Savannah College of Art and Design for two years with intentions of working for a large NY designer. School was far more complicated than she anticipated though, with professors expecting her to have had numerous years of design experience. It was integral that she find a way to create in a style that worked for her without all the technical experience. Taking on the challenge this way she believes has been an advantage to her because she can create without any preconceived ideas of how things have to be done.

After winning a series of awards from notable fashion industries, Barton garnered the courage to launch her own brand which iconically bears her name. The Kate Barton brand sports sculptured looks that “move like liquid.” The designs are created using unique draping techniques that set the brand apart and make each piece into a functional optical illusion.
Although still working on the brand’s core elements, Barton has already been represented by numerous celebrities such as Heidi Klum, Katy Perry, Winnie Harlow, and Livvy Dunne. There have also been reports that she may even be making custom pieces for Beyonce, Madonna, and even Taylor Swift.

Despite her roaring success, Barton is ensuring the longevity of her brand by solidifying the business end of things and working to further establish the integral details of her eclectic and iconic designs by creating pieces appropriate for everyday wear. Certainly, Barton has turned heads in the fashion industry and with her unparalleled creativity paired with an untainted vision for the unusual, she will be for a long time.
