Rachel Zeitz and Gladiator lacross

In 2012 at the age of 13 while practicing lacrosse in her backyard Rachel Zeitz launched a ball into her lacrosse rebounder however the net broke on impact. To many this might not seem like a big deal because she could just go out and get a new one. For her though this was a tipping point she had already been fed up with most lacrosse products and thought that they were cheap and had to be replaced often. This led her to creating Gladiator lacrosse, a company that made durable lacrosse products. She started out slowly first creating a new kind of net and then a rebounder to help her practice. She said in an interview that her biggest concern was creating a net that was durable but could also stand up to all weather conditions. After creating her company she attended Princeton college and played lacrosse there as well which she admitted made running the business tough because she had to balance sports and academics as well as a business. She said in the early years of her company her parents really helped her especially her dad who was an entrepreneur himself. She said she taught him lots of business principles. She also noted how shortly after creating her company she attended an online business school to learn how to run and manage a business. Now her company is worth 10 million dollars in revenue. Despite this success however Zeitz has said she plans to expand the company into other areas like water bottles, compression socks and other lacrosse specific items. What stands out about Zeitz stories is her willingness to take a step back and learn from others whether that was her dad or her online course. It’s also interesting to see how she isn’t satisfied with what she has already made and is already planning out future products to help grow her company.

Lacrosse is definitely one of those sports that goes unnoticed so I can see why she felt so passionately about improving the small selection of equipment that was available. Her story makes her products even more legitimate, because as a collegiate lacrosse player, she knows exactly what lacrosse athletes need to succeed.
