Lucy Guo: The Mind Behind Scale AI

Lucy Guo, the daughter of two Chinese immigrant parents, was born in California in 1994. Her parents were both electrical engineers, sparking her curiosity in technology and the science. In her early teenage years, she was already working on coding projects such as developing bots for her favorite mobile game, Neopet, so that she could make fast progress, and even eventually make real profit in the game.
By the time her high school years were coming to an end she had become quite an impressive coder and overall student, opening the opportunity to attend Carnegie Mellon University’s Computer Science program. In 2014, her life changed due to the Thiel Fellowship grant. The grant is a 100K two-year grant for students some selected students who show promise in the entrepreneurial world. Thus, she dropped out of College.
The Thiel Fellowship grant opened up new doors for Lucy, landing her an internship with Facebook which led to another job with snapchat where she played a large role in the creation of the snap map. Yet she continued forward until she landed at Quora where she met Alexandr Wang, who help her co-found Scale AI at the young age of 21.
For those who do not know much about Scale AI, this specific AI model is commonly used by Meta and the US national security. More specifically by the Air Force and the US Army along with many other companies and brands. But in only two years of being there, Lucy left over a disagreement she had with Wang. Nevertheless, she still remains a major stock holder in her company. Surprising to none, she moved on to many other projects, making the world a more connected, smarter place at every turn. One major accomplishment of Lucy Guo’s is that she passed Taylor Swift as the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, placing herself among five other women who claim the title of self-made billionaire.
Clearly, Lucy Guo was given a brilliant mind from God, yet her abilities do not simply halt at technological intellect. She is also a social media influencer with 165K followers on Instagram. If anything is clear about this young woman it is her dedication and mind can result in great good for this ever changing world we live in today.

That’s quite a story! From dropping out of college, to working for two major social media companies, to building an AI engine used by the U.S. government, her journey stands out from the rest. She certainly must have a brilliant mind to accomplish all this by her late 20s, even with dropping out of college!
Wow, this is so inspiring! I really enjoyed reading your blog post! It is cool to see how AI is being used in different aspects of our culture.
