Kai Bear’s Popcorn – Kai Walker
Kai Walker represents what’s possible when you combine your passions and turn them into a business. At just 8 years old, Kai was already exploring entrepreneurship through a Lego-inspired YouTube channel. In order to fund his growing Lego hobby, he decided to sell his favorite snack—popcorn—a simple idea that quickly popped into a full-fledged business venture.
When Kai’s family couldn’t find a local Virginia popcorn producer in order for Kai to continue the realization of his dream, they partnered with an independently owned movie theater and trusted them to handle production, giving Kai Bear’s Popcorn a strong and reliable foundation. From there, Kai took charge of product development, approving only the flavors he believes will resonate with customers. The lineup now ranges from classic to boldly creative, designed to appeal to both kids and adults. Kai Bear’s Popcorn got its name from Kai’s grandmother, who lovingly nicknamed him Kai Bear. Kai was quick to assure interviewers that he does not, in fact, possess a teddy bear like the one featured on his products.

The family focuses on festivals and fairs as their primary sales channels, choosing locations that encourage face-to-face interactions with their target customers while keeping overhead low. Behind the scenes, Kai is gaining real-world business education, and learning how to manage inventory, track revenue, calculate break-even points, and even understand how vendor fees impact profitability, all from the joint experience of running a business and reaping the knowledge and involvement of his parents.
Their thoughtful approach is paying off. The University of Richmond recently selected Kai Bear’s Popcorn for its fall and winter sports concessions after discovering the brand at a business league event. Featuring flavors like Caramel and Birthday Cake, this partnership marks a significant step toward broader distribution and validates the brand’s commercial appeal.
With strategic flavor choices, smart event-based sales, and expanding partnerships, Kai Bear’s Popcorn shows how a youth-led business can grow sustainably and successfully—all popping into reality due to one kid’s love of popcorn and Legos.

It is amazing how simple an idea he decided to pursue and turn into a business, all because his favorite food is popcorn. Nice work!
My roommate and I love popcorn, we rarely go a week without making some AT LEAST once. I love the passion this kid has for popcorn, much appreciated and respected.
Popcorn has to be a favorite snack item in America. There is no way people can watch a movie without popping some corn. You have to admire this kid’s desire to turn something he loves into a business.
