Mikaila Ulmer – Me & the Bees Lemonade
Nobody likes being stung by a bee — let alone multiple times! But sometimes these uncomfortable situations spark the best and most creative ideas! Mikaila Ulmer, a Gen Z entrepreneur created her lemonade business after she was stung by a bee twice in one week.
Mikaila started her business when she was only four years old. Her inspiration came from a cookbook that was given to her by her great-grandmother. This cookbook contained a recipe for Flaxseed lemonade, which Mikaila improved by adding honey. This unique modification was inspired by her interaction with bees earlier and her growing fascination with them. Her lemonade stand, which began on in her front yard in Austin, TX, has grown into a national company that works in all 50 states.
Her mission, “Buy a bottle… Save a bee!” is the backbone of her business. It focuses on donations to bee-saving organizations, encouraging research/studies in bees and teaching about their importance to the environment.
In addition to her Lemonade business, Mikaila is also the author of the book Bee Fearless: Dream Like a Kid. A book that which journals her whole journey from bee stings to national business. Her book serves to inspire young changemakers and future innovators. She also uses her knowledge of bees and her story to speak at global events focused on bee conservation and encouraging young entrepreneurs.
Mikaila Ulmer is so much more than a successful entrepenur. Her story shows just how much passion and purpose can make a lasting impact. Her story also reminds us on how the smallest ideas can grow into something super powerful. (Matthew 13:31-32)

Every child believes that their first lemonade/roadside stand is going to garner them all the money in the world, and this story is the most perfect recognition of those dreams coming to fruition in such a sweet way! I feel that this story would one hundred percent encourage a kid entrepreneur to keep up their hard work and try all sorts of new ventures.
It is evident that Mikaila worked very hard to expand her business and did a fantastic job! Not only did she create an extremely successful lemonade business, but she worked to support charity to save bees and wrote a book. Her story is truly inspiring and sets her apart as a great entrepreneur.
What a fun and creative business! I’ve never been stung by a bee (and hopefully never will), but I sympathize regardless. I think it’s awesome that she also published a book to help further her cause and inspire young kids to pursue their passions just like she did.
I enjoy knowing where entrepreneurs get their original inspiration from and I actually totally relate to kid’s cookbooks being super inspiring; I really appreciate their use of photography and color combined with simplicity and clarity. Just like Mikaila, it is important to stay open to inspiration coming from all kinds of sources. Being 4-years old seems ridiculously young to be starting a business – but it is wonderful. One thing that really stuck out to me is the market in which Mikaila’s business successfully began, Texas. Having lived all over the country, I think the culture in Texas is particularly good cultivating ground for a business of this sort because of two key factors: long hot summers and eating out is very popular and prolifically common. Good inspiration and the right market are critical.
