Ehan Kamat – The Solemender

There are plenty of young entrepreneurs in this day and age, and I am going to tell you about Ehan Kamat. About nine years ago, Ehan was living in St. Louis, Missouri, when he hurt the arch of his foot while playing sports at school. His mother tried to aleive him of the pain by giving him a frozen water bottle to roll his foot on. This simple homemade solution worked, but what if something this simple could turn into an actual invention? Ehan soon became interested in developing the idea and devoted many hours to creating the Solemender.

The Solemender he invented was a small, portable stainless steel box with a metal roller on the top. He combined cooling and massage into one product, creating something that could help relieve foot pain. What started as a frozen water bottle turned into a product that could be used by other people with problems similar to his. Instead of changing the original idea completely, Ehan found a way to take what already worked and make it into something more practical.

I was surprised by how little his invention changed from the original makeshift solution. He took his mom’s frozen water bottle and made very few changes to the basic mechanics of it. He didn’t need to create something completely new or entirely complicated. He simply improved a simple idea and turned it into a product that he could sell. I think that is one of the most interesting parts of his story because it shows that an invention doesn’t always have to be a completely revolutionary idea. Sometimes, it can start with something that already works and just be improved.

As the Solemender grew, Ehan was also able to boost his sales by going on Shark Tank and selling on Amazon. His story affects my mindest towards inventing and becoming an entrepreneur because, even though it wasn’t a revolutionary idea, he went and stuck with it and kept going until he was able to achieve great things. One thing that stood out to me was that Ehan didn’t stop at the idea. Whereas I did. I’ve had many ideas that I thought could become something and just put them in a journal to do later. Ehan didn’t just write his idea down and wait. He immediately went to work on his invention and kept developing it. Seeing how he took such a simple idea and actually did something with it makes me want to stop putting my own ideas off and start working on them instead.

I like the way you layed out the personal connection that Ethan had to this product. He decided to take something that was really hard for them and apply an innovative twist that many athletes could use. I also like how you focused on the fact that he not only had a revolutionary idea but acted on it and applied himself because I think thats a core part of innovation that often gets lost.

I love that you mentioned that Ehan took an existing solution and made it better. His idea did not need to be revolutionary; it simply needed to be more effective. These little steps of innovation are what leads to massive revolutionary changes in the long run. I also think it’s interesting that he was able to turn his pain into a successful business. It shows that when a problem is affecting a person directly, they might be more motivated to find a solution.
