Bunim Laskin – Swimply
Imagine wanting to spend a relaxing day with your friends swimming and sunbathing, free of inconvenience or stress, but your best option is the neighborhood public pool full of concerned parents and screaming kids. Not relaxing at all right? Thanks to Bunim Laskin, the founder of Swimply, this doesn’t have to be an issue anymore.
What began with helping a disagreeable neighbor has boomed into a multi-million-dollar business. Swimply allows people, whether they just want to casually hang out, or throw a massive party, to locate the perfect space to do so. Not only that, but pool owners have the opportunity to make significant amounts of money off their unutilized assets.

Originally, Laskin plastered his number on posters all over town and people would call him to get connected with a pool owner that he painstakingly tracked down on Google Maps or found in his neighborhood. Of course, this was wildly inconvenient, yet people were incredibly appreciative. Encouraged by this, Laskin dropped his studies, raised a million dollars, and officially launched Swimply in 2019. His idea garnered enough attention that Shark Tank gave him a spot on the show; however, the business nearly ended when Covid-19 arrived, and the last thing people were thinking about was having parties in strangers’ back yards. Once the CDC declared chorine treated pools safe though, Swimply grew exponentially throughout the whole of 2020.
While things were looking up, Swimply still had a long way to go. For there to be any bookings at all, Laskin had to figure out and communicate to hosts exactly what people were looking for, and prices had to be adjusted in such a way that people wouldn’t view the renting process as a one-time experience. Not only that, but hosts were renting out their pools so frequently that entire neighborhoods were being negatively affected. Laskin prevailed though, creating a people and community-oriented platform, dedicated to providing unforgettable, yet easily accessible experiences.

Today, Swimply brings in over twenty million dollars in revenue and has expanded beyond offering just private pools for rent. Now you can access anything from private pickle ball courts to Manhattan mansions. Through creative problem solving, Laskin has successfully connected people all over the world to each other and the locations of their dreams.

That’s an interesting niche that he managed to find in the extremely saturated online listings marketplace market. There are definitely a lot of hurdles to overcome for a business model that complex, but it certainly seems to have worked out pretty well for him. I don’t think I’ve actually heard of that service before even though it seems like it would have been a good resource for my extended family, I wonder if it’s very active in my hometown area.
