Belay Brummel – The Standard
When I think of Gen Z entrepreneurs, I think of my good friend, Belay. We went to high school together in Illinois and are apart of the same friend group and played football together. He committed to play quarterback for Cal as a PWO and played there for three years before graduating early. As a quarterback, he noticed that there were no real products for quarterbacks. He created the Standard: a liquid paste that turns into chalk so that quarterbacks can have grip on the ball.
Belay has used a variety of outlets to showcase his product. He is very talented in marketing and social media. He posts multiple times a week on LinkedIn and posts almost every day for the Standard’s Instagram. He is very engaging and informative on his product. He also has been using his status as a former D1 football player to show that he is a legit entrepreneur who knows what he is talking about. He is also best friends with Heisman winner, Fernando Mendoza. He uses Mendoza in videos to increase the Standard’s buzz and to create a higher demand.
Belay does all this while working for a Private Equity firm in San Francisco. He has sold out many of his products consistently and is currently working on partnerships with famous athletes and college/professional teams. He epitomizes the Gen Z entrepreneur because he relies on his social media savviness to engage and create an audience.
