Gen Z is Done Waiting

23-year-old University of Pennsylvania graduate, Melanie Herbert, cofounded Sync Labs. Sync Labs AI would help her tackle the pressing matter of elderly healthcare. In her childhood, Herbert underwent a lot of different hospital treatments for various issues. During this time, she saw how much weight was put on our healthcare workers and medical staff. This AI will track elderly people’s daily habits, eating routines, and even fall risks in a non-invasive way. This allows for the patients to have their privacy, while assisting medical workers by helping them keep track of so much at once.
This was an extremely beneficial addition to the healthcare industry. The hope is that this will start the decline of the elderly healthcare crisis. Perhaps it will even improve morale and productivity of the medical staff. Also, the patients can trust that their information will not be used for marketing or research purposes. All will be between them and their doctor. This is very comforting in an age where everything is trying to gather information about us. Your medical needs and issues should be private, and Herbert’s program ensures that for you.
This idea was such a success when executed that Herbert and her cofounders received the 2025 Penn President’s Innovation Prize. Her idea has created a macroeconomic shift in data related to business applications from Gen Z. Gen Z’s submitted business applications jumped a whopping 66%. They were inspired by her to create their own innovations using AI technology. The question is; can we continue to use AI for the betterment of humanity?

Melanie did a great job at identifying a gap in the market and filling it! She looked at her own personal experience and was able to look at it on a broader scale and find a bigger problem that lots of people are dealing with.
