Josh Feinsilber – Cofounder of Gimkit
At the age of just 16 years old, Josh Feinsilber created Gimkit. In high school, he was inspired by Kahoot to create a a similar concept to help students be able to study and learn. Instead of just a quiz like Kahoot is, he created a video game type concept. It allowed students to be able to strategize and earn points as they solved problems. Another main thing he tried to improve compared to Kahoot was to create some repetition with the questions to really engrain the information into the student’s mind.
It is amazing to see someone younger than me be able to create something like that just from noticing an opportunity of improvement for a product that is already out there. This initially started out as a school project for Josh, but he was able to keep working on it and really created something amazing.
That really inspires me to be able to look at things I use within my own life and see if there is anything that could be slightly changed that would improve a product. A lot of times we think of entrepreneurship as having to come up with some completely brand new idea, but Josh has shown that a lot of times it is as simple as adapting an idea that has already been created.
Gimkit has had hundreds of thousands of students in many different countries use their technology to help learn new concepts. It is amazing to see young people do something so great to benefit people all over the world even if it is as simple as create a video game to help people learn.

I love that you highlighted how he started this as a school project. That definitely goes to show how even the greatest of business ideas can start small. Also, so true and a great point that entrepreneurship does not have to be a whole new idea but can rather build off something that already exists.
Great post, crazy he was just sixteen when he started! I also like the note where you personally reflect and talk about how it moved you personally, that’s a great way to make the reader feel this is more than just a homework assignment.
It is amazing that Gimkit was started by someone at 16 years old and I love how he used his innovation skills to find a problem in another app and improve it. I also used to love playing Gimkit during my classes in high school.
The thing that stands out about Gimkit is how well it combines learning with playing games. Josh took the “concept” of learning tools like Kahoot and transformed it into a more fun and engaging way to learn for middle and high school students.
