Grace Beverly – TALA
Grace Beverly, a graduate of Oxford University, was looking to make a switch from fast fashion to more sustainable, long-lasting clothing. She had success in every aspect of this, except for the one frustration that was constantly looming over her: women’s athletic wear. Trying to find the solution to this problem, she decided to create the solution herself.

TALA was born in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. As a female-led brand with 100% of the design team and nearly 75% of leadership and board positions being held by women, TALA is a sustainable brand for athletic wear made from naturally sourced and recycled materials. Each piece of clothing is made of at least 50% sustainable fibers (which includes recycled or plant-based fibers) to reduce the brand’s impact on the environment. TALA uses recycled material for their polyester and polyamide fabrics, as well as conducting the use of 100% recyclable paper mailing bags instead of using plastic mailing bags that get thrown in the trash.
While TALA is a thriving brand, during its initial phases a few compromises needed to be made to make the flourishing business that can be seen today. For example, making the fabric 2% less sustainable lowers the price of the product by 50%. Because of this minor change, products from TALA are much more affordable for their target market, which are millennial and Generation Z women who are active and environmentally conscious.
Although this brand began as a dream and sprouted during the COVID-19 pandemic, it is now a thriving company that leaves a small environmental footprint due to their sustainable plant-based fibers. Now, the brand can be purchased both through their website as well as in stores at many different locations. TALA hopes to continue to positively impact the environment and women alike through their sustainable and affordable business.

Fast fashion has become so prevalent, I am happy people are starting to create sustainable clothes rather than things that don’t last, in hopes that we will keep buying more of their product. It is so telling of an entrepreneur when they actually have your best interest at heart, rather than their wallet.
