Brian Wong is a Canadian internet entrepreneur. He was born in 1991 in Vancouver, British Columbia. He graduated high scholl at 14 by skipping four grades. After, he earned his bachelors of Commerce from the University of British Columbia. At age 18, he graduated college. At 18, he started at company called “FollowFormation” which was a tool to discover categorized Twitter users At 19, he started a company called Kiip which is a mobile innovation that allows brands to reward users during “moments of achievement”. The app integrates rewards into mobile apps at specific moments. Before the idea came about, Wong was laid off from a tech industry call “Digg”. However, this was a big turning point for Wong’s story. Wong took a flight where he noticed noticed someone playing Angry Birds on their phone. He also noticed that people get moments of success like leveling up and high scores. The “achievement moments” included: emotional positivity and similar reactions across different apps. His idea was to have brands reward users during things called “happy moments” in games and apps. This is the alternative to interrupting users with annoying banner ads. Wong ultimately wanted to make advertising less intrusive and more fun/meaningful. This benefits both brands, users, and app developers. The rewards can be both real world items like coupons and discounts or branded products. Overall, Kiip was a pioneering app that did not interrupt users, but instead rewarded during peak engagement moments. This revolutionized the advertisement and brand industry so that everyone can win.
