Lucie Macleod – Hair Syrup

Lucie Macleod is a 26-year-old, Welsh, gen z entrepreneur who founded Hair Syrup. While completing her final year at the University of Warwick studying marketing, Lucie began to experiment with entrepreneurial innovation.
In 2019, Lucie realized that her hair was beginning to fade and shrivel due to many years of bleaching and mistreatment of her hair. After realizing this, she began to try to save her hair through many different hair products that were advertised to work but to no avail did not. During her research, she came by an article that wrote on the possible benefits of pre-wash hair treatments.
Lucie immediately began to try to find pre-wash hair treatments that would meet her needs. None of the products that she considered were what she was needing. The lack of the product she was seeking sparked her to start making pre-wash treatments of her own. She experimented with many different ideas until finally one of them stuck and helped her own hair.
After some time of using the product herself, which she called hair syrup, she posted on Tik Tok during COVID a video about her story and the product she uses. The trend at the time was heavily focused on self-care during the pandemic, so the video she posted blew up. Her followers began to beg her to sell the product to them, so she did.
Now Lucie has amassed an incredible annual revenue of 5 million euros this past year. She only began with the small amount of 300 euros and has grown immensely through the help of social media. Only a couple of days ago, she was announced as the Sunday Times’ Young Founder of the Year.
Similarly to many entrepreneurs, Lucie identified a problem that she encountered herself, solved the problem, and has shared it with the great success to the masses that also have the same problem.

I am amazed at the amount of financial growth Lucie Macleod’s company has produced in such a short time. It just goes to show you the value and impact in seeing an issue and putting effort into finding a solution. Of course the key is sharing that solution with those around you who can benefit from that very same discovery. In Macleod’s case, she used the far reaching capabilities of social media to share her invention.
