Sofia Overton- Wise Pockets
Sofia Overton is a perfect example of a seemingly small and boring idea, and turning it into a large scale business. When she was just 13 years old, she came up with the idea that she would later base her business around. She wanted to make a solution to the problem that there is a lack of pockets in kids’ clothing. She noticed one day that her friend slipped her phone into her boot, because she had nowhere else to put it. What if she designs socks and leggings with built in pockets? Thus, she launched Wise Pockets. She started small, and made her first designs with money from her own savings. However, she was driven to scale her ideas further, and with help from crowd funding campaigns, her business grew.
She debuted on Shark Tank in 2020. On national TV, she demonstrated her determination, as well as showing the quality of her products. She showed how your phone or other belongings will stay secured in the pockets. Sofia impressed the sharks with her business itself, as well as her negotiating skills. She walked away with a $35,000 investment for 35% stake in her company.
Another thing that stood out about her company was her philanthropic work. She committed to donating a pair of socks to homeless children for every unit sold. She has demonstrated success not only in her business, but also her social impact.
Since Shark Tank, Wise Pockets has seen more and more exposure, and has grown tremendously. Her “boring” idea of pockets with socks has led to a business many aspiring entrepreneurs dream of. Sofia’s story remains inspirational for her endurance, philanthropy, and learning through innovation. She remains today as an inspiration to many young entrepreneurs today.

I feel like this story is a really good example of how impactful even small ideas can be. Something as insignificant as pockets may seem, not only is her idea now a thriving business, but it also is helping those in need.
Innovation in socks! What an amazing idea. I find it so fascinating how great ideas can come from a little creativity and very simple innovations. It encourages me that I don’t have to do rocket science to find and innovate a successful idea. Sometimes the best ideas are the ones right under your nose, literally.
