Tiffany Zhong, the CEO of Noplace, became the youngest VC (venture capital) at 18. Noplace is a social app that “aims to restore the nostalgic feel of early social networks like Myspace”. In short, it is a text only social app that has become quite popular among Gen Z. According to TechCrunch, the app is a “mashup of Twitter and Myspace for Gen Z”. It is extremely customizable and aims to connect people in a unique way. Zhong feels as though other social media sites don’t feel as social, and everything and everyone are much more disconnected.

In this app, there is no place for photos or videos; the entire thing is based off of text. Also, the goal is to let others know what you are currently doing, not what you have already done. In a way, this is similar to the app BeReal, but using words instead of pictures.

This a very fun idea, especially in light of our culture’s dependency on social media to keep us feeling connected. It’s appeal to nostalgia is very aesthetic and inviting and I think it is unique that someone so young is working to bring back the iconicness of an era of social media they weren’t a part of!

This seems like a very innovative business especially for Gen-Z. It helps people stay connected in a more meaningful way. It is also inspiring that Tiffany started as a VC so young.
