Mikaila Ulmer and Me & the Bees Lemonade

While most kids in our generation might’ve run a lemonade stand for pocket change when they were younger, and dropped it at the first sign of adversity, Mikaila Ulmer turned her lemonade into a national brand with a mission. The story of Me & the Bees Lemonade starts with a four-year-old Mikaila, getting stung by a bee. That bee sting sparked her curiosity. With the help of her encouraging parents, rather than remaining afraid, she researched bees and learned about their importance to our ecosystem. With her grandmother’s flaxseed lemonade recipe and the idea to sweeten it with honey, she launched what would become Me & the Bees Lemonade. Today, her drinks are sold in stores nationwide, and to make the story even better part of the profits go to bee conservation.
What makes Mikaila special is how she combined a simple product with a powerful story. Her idea is great not because lemonade is unique, but because she turned it into a purposeful brand that educates, inspires, sustains, and performs. She shows that even in crowded markets, authenticity and mission can set you apart. Her drive comes from both personal experience and a desire to make a difference. She didn’t let age stop her. Instead, she used it to her advantage by drawing media and community attention to her cause. Along the way, she has shown entrepreneurial traits of creativity, resilience, curiosity, and leadership. Mikaila innovates not only through technology, but by integrating values into her product. She linked a childhood story, a pressing environmental issue, and a consumer good into one big business. That kind of systems thinking is a model for modern entrepreneurship.
Her journey inspires me because it proves that great ideas don’t need to be complex; they need to be real. She teaches me to look for solutions in everyday life, to stay persistent through challenges, and to build with both impact and growth in mind. The principle I carry forward: business is most powerful when it is both good for people and good for the world.

I love this idea, and I think that the story behind it is so cool because it’s such a common experience. Not many people get stung by a bee and thing to turn it into a business! It’s also interesting to see if she will continue this business as she gets older and all the ways it will grow in the years to come!
This is such a sweet story! (pun intended 🙂 ) I love how she took an adversity and made into a successful business. Also, bravo to her parents for supporting her–I think kids are SO capable if we give them the right tools and support! I love that they didn’t limit her based off her age. I can’t wait to see what the future has for this young lady!
