Ama Amo-Agyei – Plantmade
Ama Amo-Agyei did not think she was going to be an entrepreneur five years ago. She worked in the corporate world right after her education. However, she got fired from her job in England during Covid and started to develop hair loss due to extreme stress. She documented her journey with hair loss on social media in order to create a wholistic product in order to restore hair. The idea was simple: create products designed around people’s actual hair and scalp concerns rather than simply following conventional beauty trends.
She started her company, Planted, with 100 pounds of personal investment. She started to work from her kitchen table and after growing in popularity, started to invest in warehouses so she can produce in bulk. She heavily used social media so her customers can see behind the scenes on how her products were made, emphasizing the integrity and transparency of her and her products.
She had to go through some adversity as she got copyrighted by her company name. Planted was already used and she got a cease-and-desist letter. However, Ama adapted and changed her name to Plantmade, continuing to establish her brand in the British market.
With what started out as 100 pounds of personal investment in her kitchen, Ama has taken her company to earn millions of dollars in revenue. She is a great example of a Gen-Z entrepreneur due to her reliance and expertise with social media in order to grow her business as well as turning a bad situation during Covid to a successful venture.

This is so interesting and inspiring! It’s really impressive that she started the company in her kitchen. I checked out the website and Plantmade looks really cool!
