Brendan Foody (Mercor)
23 year old Brendan Foody is the CEO and co-founder of Mercor, an AI powered recruiting platform. Foody dropped out of college during his sophomore year to pursue his goals of entrepreneurship and leading a company. He co-founded Mercor in 2023 with two of his close friends from high-school. Mercor is continuing to develop its AI technology and is also being used to help big AI labs train their models. They also provide data and experts to AI companies, which is something that is in extremely high demand in today’s age. In October 2025, Mercor was valued at $10 billion, which made Foody and his other two co-founders became the world’s youngest self made billionaires. Foody saw the growing AI spending and emphasis and was able to help bridge a gap for AI companies and profit off of it. What makes his story unique is how rare this is. You hardly ever see a college dropout dive right into creating a business of this complexity and nature with so many competitors and yet he was able to find a way to create value and bridge a gap that he saw in the AI industry. He is continuing to grow, adapt, and lead a $10 billion dollar company at only 23 years old. One of the things that makes him a great entrepreneur is the fact that he was able to find a problem that wasn’t necessarily apparent to everyone and create a business plan based upon the needs of the big time AI companies. This is inspiring to me because it is a good reminder to just be aware of what is going on in the world around us. Professor Lucas emphasized the importance of really just listening and understanding a potential problem, before you can come up with a solution for it. Foody was able to recognize this gap because he saw what AI companies were trying to accomplish and the trend in AI growth. It also serves as a good reminder that you don’t have to be the smartest, most accomplished, or most experienced to create something. If you can provide a product or service that creates value for someone else, a group of people, or a whole industry, you can be successful. AI and technology in today’s world is evolving, learning, and adapting quicker than ever before. Foody and his company must continue to do the same (which they are doing) in order to stay competitive and relevant in the AI industry.
