Zach Yadegari: From Camp Coding To CalAI
From a very young age, Yadegari had been coding. When he was seven, he was sent to coding camp. He didn’t learn much there but it sparked his interest. From there, he started coding whenever he had time whether that was in the middle of class or after he got home school. When he was sixteen, he coded and sold his first app for 100,000 dollars. The app was “Totally Science” and it was a game that kids could play at school that would not be blocked from there computers. However, this was just the fund money for his next project. He started coding this new calorie tracking app. However, he needed to be mentored on how to actually grow an app to millions and millions of downloads. So, he started messaging people and that’s when he found his co-founder, Henry. Together, they created an app that solves a vital need for most health app users: tracking calories is time consuming and inconvenient. This app uses artificial intelligence to do all the work for the user. It was a genius idea and one that had not been explored yet. Yadegari is an interesting entrepreneur because he didn’t let age restrict him. By the age of sixteen, he had already sold a company for 100,000 dollars. Even after that, he was still not satisfied. He reinvested. A lot of people would’ve been safe with that money but he did not. Now, CalAI is doing 30 million a year in revenue.

This is a very cool story Holden; I appreciate Yadegari’s creativity and thinking. It is crazy to see all of these things he had done at such a young age. His drive to constantly improve and keep moving on to the next idea is very inspiring to me and tells others how important it is to never settle when innovating and to keep moving forward in your ideas.
It’s honestly crazy to imagine selling a company for that much money at 16. The AI calorie tracker as well seems like a great idea, and since it hadn’t been explored yet, the perfect thing for a young entrepreneur to solve. Overall seems like Yadegari’s future is very promising; hopefully he will continue to create new innovative apps.
