Small Lemonade Business Owner in Austin, Texas
Mikaila Ulmer was born in Austin, Texas and started selling her lemonade made with honey from her grandmother’s bees. Her lemonade sold well and she stared to gain traction in her local area when a near-by pizza-shop asked Mikaila if she would supply her product to it. This is when she began bottling her lemonade (2009). Since the very beginning of her business, Mikaila has donated 10 percent of her profits to charities that are concerned with saving the bees. As the business continued to grow, Mikaila received additional support from her parents. She now attends the “Ivory of the South”: Emory University. Later on, in 2015 Mikaila gained further financial support with her debut on Shark Tank where she received a $60,000 investment for her business. She gained the public eye when she visited President Obama at the White House that same year. In 2017 Ulmer received $800,000 as an investment from a coalition of football players. By this time Ulmer’s lemonade (“Me and the Bees Lemonade”) was selling at a high rate of 500,000 bottles per year in 500 different shops around the country. By 2020, Ulmer’s product was in 1,500 different stores nationwide. This is an incredible story of a young entrepreneur that had a dream for a small business, never gave up, and gave her business the time and support needed to see true success throughout the years.

I like this story! Like Mr. Cory’s Cookies, Me and the Bees Lemonade illustrates how much something can grow with consistent investment over time.
I love the idea of the honey in lemonade! It was inspiring how something more natural was able to make it into the places that it did and become such a large business.
